'Tis the Season: Football Season, that is

Ahhh! Fall! There are so many things that I love about fall: football (Roll Tide), Friday night high school football (Go Eagles), cool weather, camping and the list goes on.

Alas, AW & I are a house divided and therein lies the rub...

I'm an Alabama fan, he's an Auburn fan.

Do you know how hard it is to be a house divided? I mean, at Christmas time whenever I buy an ornament I have to purchase both the Alabama AND the Auburn ornament. There is hardly anything cute out there for a house divided that does not cost a ridiculous amount of money.

I've been wanting to do a new craft and I've been googling easy crafts and one that piqued my interest was a rag wreath.

There were pictures of all kinds of rag wreaths online and I decided to do a house divided one! I was excited because I knew it would be cheap and it said it only took about 30 minutes to an hour to complete!

However, while I was at the store purchasing my fabric a lady about 40 or 50 years old was telling me how her mother made rag wreaths....ummm, then I started to panic, "Am I making an old lady craft?" "Have I ever seen a rag wreath in my grandmother's house? Wait, I think I have!!! Have I? Have I?" "What if this turns out ugly and old-lady-ish?"

Well, I decided I already had the fabric so I would just go ahead with it with confidence and if I hated it I would only be out $5 and an hours time.

Thankfully, I don't hate the finished product BUT I'm out way more than an hour...I'm not sure if there is something wrong with me but it definitely took me about 4 HOURS!!!

Seriously, that is ENTIRELY TOO MUCH TIME for such a project!

I want to make a Christmas wreath and maybe this time it won't take me as long...I have to think that!

Anyways, besides the fact that it took me forever to complete it was a really easy process:

I just bought 1/4 yd. of 4 different fabrics
Cut them into 1"x6" strips
Tied the strips to a wire hanger that I'd pulled out into a circle

There was plenty of this ugly fabric available at the stores ;)

But if you want this beautiful fabric you might have to shop around at a couple of stores as it is selling like crazy...who doesn't want to be a part of a winning tradition?? =)

I have a good bit of fabric scraps left over so if you know of any other "rag crafts" please let me know!

  1. That ugly orange and blue fabric, will make great rags. It's a shame you had to ruin your wreath. Can't wait for football season either! Roll Tide!
